It's simple, only a piano and Morrisey's voice, but it's full of feeling. I think it talks about surrender, about suicide. At first sight it isn't a nice topic for a song, but The Smiths got the perfect melody-lyrics combination and they made the song sound sad but calm. The man of the song is really fed up with his life, so he dicides to kill himself because he believes in a better world and a better life after death. The best of all that is that the man isn't sacared, he just thinks that he has done all he could do in life. Simply amazing, saddest song ever. Here you have the link to listen to it, perhaps you won't like it but I hope you can at least realize it's beautiful.
Asleep-The Smiths
"Sing me to sleep and then leave me alone. Don't try to wake me in the morning 'cause I will be gone."
